Hundreds of people lined up in their cars at the Afook-Chinen Civic Auditorium to turn in their registration forms for Elderly Recreation Services classes, which are restarting next year.

Pending changes in the spread of COVID-19, ERS plans to reopen all classes to kupuna in Hawaii County beginning Monday, Jan. 10, 2022.

Registration for all classes will remain open until the start of classes, and participants can register for multiple classes.

Kupuna can register for classes in Puna at the Keaau Community Center. The Kamana Senior Center is accepting registration for Hilo classes after Wednesday, Dec. 15.

For information regarding registration for classes in West Hawaii, kupuna can call 808-323-4340.

Seniors enrolled in classes canceled in August 2021 due to the COVID-19 pandemic will be contacted individually by ERS staff to reschedule those classes.

For more information or to get a copy of class schedules, call 808-961-8710 for Hilo, 808-966-5801 for Puna, and 808-323-4340 for West Hawaii.
